I spoke with my wife's eldest daughter today and she told me that there's a new app in town. In this instance, it's Chase Bank. You can download an app to your Android phone or iPhone and actually deposit checks without going to the bank or ATM.
I just tried it. You enter the amount of the deposit via the app and then take a picture of both the front and back sides of the check with your phone. It then registers your deposit.
I just went online with my laptop to confirm that it was there. Yep, there it was!
Absolutely amazing!
